1 – Putting on deodorant or wearing a bra promotes breast cancer: false

An experiment in mice showed a link between antiperspirant deodorants that contain aluminum salt and the development of cancerous tumors. Since then, it has been contradicted by several scientific studies. Be careful, however, to limit the use of products that contain endocrine disruptors.

The best prevention is still to use a natural or self-made deodorant. Regarding the wearing of the bra: whatever their shape, with or without underwire, no link has been established to date with breast cancer.

2 – It is the most common breast cancer in women: true
There are 59,000 new cases in France each year. It is the leading cause of cancer death in women. There are approximately 12,000 deaths per year.
Note that more than 50% of breast cancers develop after 50 years. Diagnosis at an early stage (before any symptoms) allows one in five women to be alive 5 years later. And this for 99 women out of 100.
3 – Mammography hurts: true and false
It is not a very pleasant exam, it is true. This is a breast x-ray that allows you to get images of the inside of the breast using x-rays. It is the only way to detect abnormalities such as cancerous tumors.
Two x-rays are taken per breast: one from the front and one obliquely. The exam lasts on average 10 to 15 minutes. It is recommended to do a mammogram per year past 50 years.

4 – Men can also be affected by breast cancer: true
Yes, men can also be affected by this pathology. However, cases are very rare. They represent “only” 1% of the total number of breast cancers diagnosed each year in France.
5 – He is getting better and better: true
When detected at an early stage, breast cancer can be cured in more than 90% of cases, according to figures from the National Cancer Institute (INCA). Another source of hope, mortality from this disease fell by 1.5% per year between 2005 and 2012.
