Biden and Scholz do not recognize the legitimacy of any steps that contradict the territorial integrity of Ukraine – German government

US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a telephone conversation on May 5, which focused on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the German government.
The two leaders spoke about the military situation and support for Ukraine, according to the release. Biden and Scholz concluded that Ukraine “should continue to receive substantial and ongoing support in exercising its legitimate right to self-defense.”

“Russia continues to be urgently required to immediately cease hostilities in Ukraine, withdraw its troops from Ukraine and thereby restore the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. The German Chancellor and the US President stressed that they do not recognize any steps that are contrary to the territorial sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine , and that such steps would not be legitimate,” the release emphasizes.

Biden and Scholz also condemned the statements of the leadership of the Russian Federation that discredit the authorities of Ukraine.

Which statements are meant is not specified. Moscow claims that in 2014 a “coup d’etat” took place in Ukraine, and not a Revolution of Dignity, and calls the current authorities a “neo-Nazi regime.”
