As you may be aware the Caribbean and Barbados is well known for its beautiful golden sandy beaches and this is so true. It is very relaxing sitting in the shade of the gently swaying palm trees with the fine white golden sand between your toes and the background noise of the calm clear sea just breaking on the shoreline. This is the picture if you were visiting the beaches on the South or West side of Barbados. On the East side of Barbados, the sand is just as beautiful, there are more rocks dotted around on the golden sandy beaches but instead of the calm waters you would be watching the fascination of the bigger waves rolling across the waters, breaking early and the sound of them crashing in against the shoreline. This is a surfers paradise. The difference between the beaches on the two sides of the Island is that Barbados is surrounded by two different seas, one being the calm Caribbean Sea and the other being the Atlantic Ocean, However, this gives Barbados its great beauty making this small Island an attraction for all.

Barbados has so many of these beautiful beaches all around the Island and the best part is that as Barbados is a small Island, you can travel around Barbados and experience some of these different settings for yourself. On the South and West Coasts of the Island there are many of these calm clear water beaches which is ideal if you want to take a dip or go for a swim or if you have your snorkel you can explore the sea life swimming around beneath you. As the Caribbean Sea is so calm and the water is so clear, yes you can see the bottom of the seabed and your toes, and you will get great views of the smaller fishes which live in these waters and be able to admire their colours and tranquility.

On the South Coast of Barbados, there is a very popular beach called Miami Beach. Many of the locals spend their time relaxing at this beach. It has got a great picnic area, situated in a large shaded area of palm trees so you can avoid the direct heat from the sun. There are also refreshments available and a shower area to wash off. These waters are so calm and ideal for swimming.

On the West Coast of Barbados, you have many smaller beaches which are very quiet as well as the popular beaches particularly in the top tourist spots near hotels. On some of these beaches near the hotels you will find restaurants or bars on the beach front offering you welcome refreshments. Mullins Bay is a particularly good spot and very popular to watch the sun set. Near Bridgetown there is also a popular beach which is near the Malibu Centre called Brighton Beach. Here you can see the ships heading in or out from the harbour.
